Getting my name out there

signwritersFor about the last six months now, I’ve been trying to get this business model I developed myself up and running, but for some reason it just hasn’t gotten enough traction. So I guess, at this point in the venture, it’s time to look back and try and figure out where everything went wrong.

To try and make this as straightforward as possible, it’s necessary for me to first outline the basic premise of business. Essentially, it’s for parents who want to customise a story for their kids. They can come to me with story or character ideas, and I write a suitable tale of magic and fun with appropriate pictures, print it, and give it to them as a bespoke present for their little one.

From what I can work out, the reason it’s not quite making it into the black has nothing to do with the design of the business or the process involved, but rather with the publicity. For whatever reason, the word just isn’t out there. People just don’t know that I exist. But because I haven’t exactly managed to make a profit yet, I don’t really have any money to spend employing a marketing company or anything like that to help me spread the word. Having said that, though, I was thinking about employing a signwriter in Melbourne to do some one-off, contract type work for me. I just need something out the front that’s going to grab people’s attention and hopefully prompt them to come inside and have a chat with me.

The thing is, though, I don’t want it to look like other corporate signs in Melbourne. I’m a creative business and I want to stand out from the crowd, but at the same time, I want it to be in line with everything else I do. I just hope I can find something like that in my price range.
